♦ Venezuela’s executive vice president Delcy Rodríguez has emerged as the country’s acting President after President Nicolás Maduro was captured during a US military operation. 

♦ Rodríguez is a Caracas native born on May 18, 1969. She is the daughter of Jorge Antonio Rodríguez, a left-wing guerrilla fighter who founded the revolutionary Liga Socialista party in the 1970s. 

♦ Rodríguez served as Venezuela's minister of communication and information from 2013 to 2014, before becoming foreign minister from 2014 to 2017. Maduro named Rodríguez vice president in June 2018.
