♦ The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has recently launched two important initiatives aimed at enhancing global cooperation in the governance of artificial intelligence (AI).

♦ These initiatives—the United Nations Independent International Scientific Panel on AI and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance—are designed to address both the benefits and risks associated with AI. 

♦ The first initiative, the United Nations Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, will serve as a vital link between the latest scientific research in AI and policy decision-making.

♦ This panel is tasked with providing rigorous and impartial scientific assessments, helping the global community to anticipate challenges and make informed decisions regarding AI governance. 

♦ The second initiative, the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, is envisaged as an inclusive platform under the UN umbrella.

♦ It will bring together member states, industry leaders, civil society, academia, and other relevant stakeholders.
