♦ Preeti Sudan was appointed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman on 31 July 2024. She is a 1983 batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. Preeti replaced Manoj Soni, who resigned ahead of the end of his tenure. Her tenure lasts till April 29, 2025. She is a member of the UPSC since November 29, 2022

♦ Preeti is the second woman to hold the position of chairperson of UPSC. Before her, the position had been held by R M Bathew in 1996.

♦ The UPSC is a constitutional body that recruits, selects, and trains civil servants for the Government of India. The body was established in 1926 as an independent agency to ensure it was free from political influence.
