♦ For the first time in any academic year, the total number of teachers in the country has crossed the one crore mark in the academic year 2024-25.
♦ This was revealed in a report by Ministry of Education on Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE +) on school education in India.
♦ According to the report, this is a rise of 6.7 percent compared to 2022-23 in the same period.
♦ Meanwhile, India currently has almost 15 lakh schools with over 24 crore students.
♦ Amongst these, almost 50 percent students are enrolled in government schools, followed by 41 percent in private schools and the rest in government aided schools.
♦ Furthermore, female representation has also increased with over 54.3 percent school teachers being female and girls’ enrolment currently at 48.3 percent.
♦ The Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) has also improved during the academic year 2024-25.
♦ The PTR at the Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary levels are now reported as 10, 13, 17, and 21 respectively.
