The National Press Day
The National Press Day

♦ The National Press Day is observed every year on 16th November to celebrate the role of a free and responsible press. The day commemorates the establishment of the Press Council of India, which began its operations on this day in 1966. Since its inception, the Council has functioned as an independent moral watchdog, working to uphold high standards of journalism and protect the press from external influence and threats.

♦ The establishment of the PCI came from the recommendations of the First Press Commission of 1956, as per the Press Information Bureau of India (PIB). The PCI was then established a decade later, on November 16, 1966, to ensure that the Press is committed to truth in the interest of the public and is held accountable.
