♦ The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has amended the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 on 13 July 2024. It granting more authority to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of the Union Territory.

♦ The amendment increases the LG's power over transfers and postings of all-India service officers, including IAS and IPS, police, law and order, and the appointment of judicial officers.

♦ J&K has been under central rule since June 2018. In August 2019, Article 370 that granted special status to the state was revoked and it was bifurcated and turned into a union territory (UT). Ladakh was turned into a separate UT.
