♦ The Union Government extended the tenure of Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Kumar Deka by one year on 20 May 2025.

♦ He is an 1988-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre.

♦ His tenure as director of IB will now continue till June 2026. 

♦ Deka was appointed the IB chief for a fixed tenure of two years in 2022.

♦ He was given his first extension for a year in 2024, June.

♦ Before becoming the IB chief, he headed the operations wing of the agency for over two decades.

♦ He was also responsible for counter-assault operations during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008.
