♦ Justice Sanjeev Khanna was appointed as the 51st Chief Justice of India on 24 October 2024. He will take the oath of office on November 11. Khanna is expected to serve a six-month term, concluding in May 2025.

♦ The current Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will retire on November 10. He took over as the CJI on 8 November 2022. 

♦ Recently Chandrachud recommended Justice Sanjiv Khanna's name as his successor. He is the second-most senior judge of the Supreme Court.

♦ Born on May 14, 1960, Justice Khanna began his legal career after enrolling as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1983.

♦ He was a member of the Constitution Bench that upheld the dilution of Article 370 of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir.
