Praveen Vashista took charge as Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission on 16 January 2026. He is a 1991-batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre. Vashista was posted as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in December 2024 and his retirement was due in July 2026. However, in an office order on Thursday, the MHA confirmed acceptance of Vashista’s voluntary retirement request by the competent authority.
♦ As per the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, the commission has a Central Vigilance Commissioner and two Vigilance Commissioners. The Vigilance Commissioners have a term of four years or till they reach the age of 65 years.
