♦ NITI Aayog launched a policy report titled ‘Expanding Quality Higher Education through States and State Public Universities’.
♦ This is first-of-its-kind document provides a comprehensive analysis of key indicators such as quality, funding, governance, and employability trends in state public universities (SPUs) over the past decade.
♦ The report was launched by Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, alongside CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam and other senior officials.
♦ It includes over 80 policy recommendations across four key areas: Quality, Funding & Financing, Governance, and Employability, along with a detailed implementation roadmap that spans short-term, medium-term, and long-term actions.
♦ The report draws on extensive stakeholder consultations, involving higher education officials from over 20 states and union territories, vice-chancellors from 50 SPUs, and leaders from state higher education councils.
♦ With 495 SPUs and more than 46,000 affiliated institutions serving 81% of total student enrollment, these universities are fundamental to India’s higher education landscape.
