♦ The 18th edition of India and Nepal joint military exercise 'Surya Kiran' was  began on 31 December 2024. The exercise, taking place at the Nepal Army Battle School, Saljhandi in the Shivalik ranges of Western Nepal, will be conducted till January 13. The annual training event is conducted alternatively in the two countries.

♦ The exercise aims to enhance interoperability in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations in mountains and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief under the United Nations Charter.

♦ The 17th edition of the joint exercise was held in Pithoragarh, India from 24th November to 07th December 2023.
