♦ National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) is celebrated every year on October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was born on October 31, 1875. Patel served as the first Home Minister of Independent India.

♦ In 2014, the Union Government decided to observe the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' on October 31st every year. 

♦ On this occasion, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) organised the Run for Unity in Delhi from Rajghat to Lal Quila in Delhi.
