♦ National Press Day is observed every year on November 16 to honour free and responsible press in the democratic society of India. The Press Council of India (PCI) was first constituted on 4th July 1966 as an autonomous, statutory, quasi-judicial body, with Justice JR Mudholkar, then a Judge of the Supreme Court, as Chairman. PCI began functioning on 16th November 1966, that's why this day was chosen as National Press Day.
♦ 2024 theme: “Changing Nature of the Press.”
