♦ National Mathematics Day is observed every year on December 22 to commemorate the birth anniversary of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. In 2012 then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared December 22 as National Mathematics Day to honor the life and achievements of Ramanujan in the field of Mathematics. Ramanujan was born on this day in 1887 in a Brahmin Iyengar family in Erode, Tamil Nadu.
