♦ National Anti-Terrorism Day is observed every year in India on May 21 to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
♦ Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991, at Sriperumbudur village near Chennai by a suicide bomber associated with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
♦ The then Prime Minister V.P. Singh’s government officially declared May 21 as National Anti-Terrorism Day.
