♦ Claudia Sheinbaum (62) takes office as Mexico’s first female President on 1 October 2024. She is a climate scientist and former Mexico City mayor. Sheinbaum replaced her mentor, outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

♦ In 2018 she became the first female mayor of Mexico City, a post she held until 2023, when she stepped down to run for president.
