♦ Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned and handed over his papers to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on 9 February 2025.

♦ The governor accepted Singh’s resignation, along with that of his council of ministers, and requested that he continue in office until alternative arrangements are made.

♦ More than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur in May 2023.

♦ Manipur has been in turmoil since May 2023 due to violent clashes between the majority Meitei and minority Kuki communities. The conflict erupted over demands for Scheduled Tribe status for Meiteis, which Kukis opposed, fearing it would take away their existing benefits.
