♦ Indian weightlifter Koyel Bar made history by setting two new youth world records and winning both the youth and junior titles in the women’s 53kg event at the Commonwealth Championships on 26 August 2025.

♦ Competing in the junior and youth categories, the teenager achieved a remarkable total lift of 192kg (85kg+107kg).

♦ She equalled the snatch youth world record with an 85kg lift and then surpassed the clean and jerk record of 105kg by lifting 107kg in her second attempt.

♦ This feat also broke the previous youth world total record of 188kg.

♦ Koyel’s performance was three kilograms more than her compatriot Sneha Soren, who won silver in the senior category with a total of 185kg (81kg + 104kg).

♦ However, Sneha was outperformed by Nigeria’s Omolola Didih, who set new Commonwealth snatch and total records with 197kg (90kg + 107kg).
