♦ Koneru Humpy won the FIDE Women’s World Rapid Chess championship title on 29 December 2024.

♦ She finished with 8.5 points after beating Indonesia’s Irene Sukandar in the final round in New York. 

♦ Humpy had won the same title in 2019, and becomes only the second woman ever after China’s Ju Wenjun to clinch it twice (2017, 2018).

♦ Humpy had won the silver and bronze in this event in 2022 and 2012. 

♦ Koneru Humpy became the youngest woman ever in 2002 to achieve the title of Grandmaster. She achieved the feat aged 15 years, 1 month, 27 days.

♦ This record was eventually surpassed by China's Hou Yifan. Koneru Humpy is also the first female Indian grandmaster.

♦ In 2006, Humpy had become only the second female chess player, after Susan Polgar, to exceed the 2600 Elo rating mark.
