♦ India’s Jyothi Yarraji won a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles event, with a timing of 12.96s at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships at GUMI, South Korea on 29 May 2025.
♦ In the 2023 edition, Jyothi won the gold medal with an effort of 13.09s. Her personal best, which is also the national record, is 12.78s.
♦ Jyothi joined a select club of five athletes to defend gold in the Asian Championships 100m hurdles, the others being Emi Akimoto of Japan (1979, 1981, 1983), Zhang Yu of China (1991, 1993), Su Yinping of China (2003, 2005) and Sun Yawei of China (2009, 2011).
♦ Avinash Sable also clinched the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase title with a season-best time of 8 minutes, 20.92 seconds.
♦ With the victory, the two-time Olympian and reigning Asian Games champion became the first Indian man in 36 years to win steeplechase gold at the Asian Championships.
♦ He joins Harbans Singh (1975) and Dina Ram (1989) as the only Indian men to achieve the feat.
♦ Sable, who won silver in the 2019 edition in Doha, is also the national record holder in the event.
