♦ International Day of Forests is observed every year on March 21 to raise awareness and encourage conservation efforts towards all types of forests globally. The International Day of Forests promotes worldwide campaigns to protect our forests, trees and plantations that play an important role in the planet’s ecosystem and are necessary for the Earth’s survival.
♦ The states members at the 16th session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organisation voted to establish an annual ‘World Forestry Day’ on March 21 in November 1971. Many years later, the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) convened a series of six Forest Days in collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention via meetings on Climate Change Conference of the Parties. Following the organisation of these events by CIFOR between 2007 and 2012, the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly formally established March 21 as the annual International Day of Forests.
♦ 2026 theme: "Forests and Economies".
