♦ World Water Day is observed annually on 22 March to highlight the importance of freshwater and promote its sustainable management.

♦ The idea of World Water Day was first introduced in 1992 during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.

♦ Following the conference, March 22 was officially designated for the annual observance. The first World Water Day was celebrated in 1993, and it has been observed ever since. 

♦ 2025 theme:  “Glacier Preservation"
