♦ New Delhi will host the Badminton World Championships in August 2026.
♦ The announcement was made by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Championships in Paris on 1 September 2025.
♦ The competition will return to India after 17 years and to Asia after four years.
♦ In 2009, the World Championships were held in Hyderabad.
♦ The last time an Asian city hosted the championships was in 2018, when it was held in China’s Nanjing.
♦ Over the years, a host of Indians have secured medals at the Badminton World Championships, with PV Sindhu being the most successful campaigner, winning five medals, including a gold, two silver and two bronze.
♦ In the recent editions, the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and ace singles player H S Prannoy have bagged medals.
♦ Prakash Padukone, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa have also won medals for India in the World Championships.
