♦ Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in US-Israel airstrikes, Iranian state media confirmed on 1 March 2026.

♦ His death occurred after a joint US and Israeli aerial bombardment that targeted Iranian military and government sites.

♦ Iranian state media reported at least 201 dead and more than 700 injured. Reports suggest that around 40 Iranian officials were also killed in the strikes.

♦ Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (86) has ruled Iran since 1989. As Supreme Leader, he holds ultimate authority over all branches of government, the military and the judiciary in the Shia Islamic republic.
