♦ Former defence secretary Ajay Kumar was appointed as the new Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairperson on 14 May 2025.

♦ The top post at UPSC became vacant after Preeti Sudan completed her term on 29 April. 

♦ Kumar is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1985 batch of the Kerala cadre. He previously served as the Defence Secretary from August 2019 to October 2022.

♦ A UPSC chairman serves for a period of six years or until reaching the age of 65, whichever comes earlier.
