వచ్చే విద్యా సంవత్సరానికి (2025-26) సెంట్రల్‌ సీట్‌ అలకేషన్‌ బోర్డు(సీశాబ్‌) ఛైర్మన్‌గా తెలంగాణలోని నల్గొండ నగరానికి చెందిన ఆచార్య కరణం ఉమామహేశ్వర్‌రావు నియమితులయ్యారు. ఈ మేరకు కేంద్ర విద్యాశాఖ ఉత్తర్వులు జారీ చేసింది. ఐఐటీ ఖరగ్‌పూర్‌ ఆచార్యుడైన ఆయన 2022 ఫిబ్రవరి నుంచి ఒడిశాలోని ఎన్‌ఐటీ రూర్కెలా సంచాలకుడిగా కొనసాగుతున్నారు. 2017 నుంచి 2022 వరకు అయిదేళ్లపాటు కర్నాటకలోని ఎన్‌ఐటీ సూరత్‌కల్‌ డైరెక్టర్‌గా కూడా పనిచేశారు.
మధ్యప్రదేశ్‌లోని ఇందౌర్‌లో భిక్షాటన చేసేవారికి డబ్బులిచ్చేవారిపై ఎఫ్‌ఐఆర్‌లు నమోదు చేస్తామని అక్కడి అధికారులు ప్రకటించారు. 2025 జనవరి 1 నుంచి ఈ నిబంధన అమల్లోకి వస్తుందని తెలిపారు. ఇప్పటికే ఇందౌర్‌లో భిక్షాటనను నిషేధించారు. యాచకులు లేని నగరాలను తీర్చిదిద్దాలనే లక్ష్యంతో కేంద్ర సామాజిక న్యాయ, సాధికార మంత్రిత్వశాఖ 10 నగరాల్లో పైలట్‌ ప్రాజెక్టు చేపట్టింది. దిల్లీ, బెంగళూరు, చెన్నై, హైదరాబాద్‌ సహా పలు నగరాలు ఈ జాబితాలో ఉన్నాయి.
భారతదేశంలో విజయ్‌ దివస్‌ను ఏటా డిసెంబరు 16న నిర్వహింస్తారు. పాకిస్థాన్‌తో 1971లో జరిగిన యుద్ధంలో భారత్‌ సాధించిన విజయానికి గుర్తుగా దీన్ని నిర్వహిస్తారు. పాకిస్థాన్‌ సైనిక పాలకుల నుంచి బంగ్లాదేశ్‌ ప్రజలకు విముక్తి కల్పించిన ఈ యుద్ధంలో భారత సైనికులు అత్యంత కీలకంగా వ్యవహరించారు. 90వేల మంది శత్రు సైనికులు 1971 డిసెంబరు 16న భారత సైన్యానికి లొంగిపోయిన అపూర్వ ఘటనకు గుర్తుగా విజయ్‌ దివస్‌ నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు.
తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్రంలో ఈ విద్యా సంవత్సరం (2024-25) విద్యార్థులు లేని సర్కారు పాఠశాలలు 1913 ఉన్నట్లు ప్రభుత్వం వెల్లడించింది. 1831 ప్రాథమిక, 49 ప్రాథమికోన్నత, 33 ఉన్నత పాఠశాలల్లో అసలు విద్యార్థులు చేరలేదని తెలిపింది. నల్గొండలో అత్యధికంగా 298 పాఠశాలలు జీరో ఎన్‌రోల్‌మెంట్‌గా ఉన్నాయి. అతి తక్కువగా మేడ్చల్‌ మల్కాజిగిరిలో ఎనిమిది ప్రాథమిక పాఠశాలలున్నాయి.
పద్మశ్రీ పురస్కార గ్రహీత, కర్ణాటక వృక్షమాతగా పేరొందిన తులసీ గౌడ (86) 2024, డిసెంబరు 16న కన్నుమూశారు. ఆమె పశ్చిమ కనుమలు, కార్వార, అంకోలా చుట్టుపక్కల అడవుల్లో 35 వేలకు పైగా మొక్కలు నాటారు. ఆయా ప్రాంతాల్లో పది లక్షల మొక్కలు నాటించిన ఘనత దక్కించుకున్నారు. ఈమె సేవలకు 2021లో అప్పటి రాష్ట్రపతి రామనాథ్‌ కోవింద్‌ పద్మశ్రీ పురస్కారాన్ని ప్రదానం చేశారు.
ప్రఖ్యాత తబలా విద్వాంసుడు ఉస్తాద్‌ జాకిర్‌ హుస్సేన్‌ అల్లా రఖా ఖురేషి (73) 2024, డిసెంబరు 16న అమెరికాలో కన్నుమూశారు. విఖ్యాత తబలా విద్వాంసుడు ఉస్తాద్‌ అల్లా రఖా కుమారుడే జాకిర్‌ హుస్సేన్‌. ఆయన 1951 మార్చి 9న ముంబయిలో జన్మించారు. 2024, నవంబరు 26న చివరిసారిగా జాకిర్‌ పారిస్‌లో ప్రదర్శన ఇచ్చారు. ఆయన మూడేళ్లకే తబలా అభ్యసన మొదలుపెట్టి ఏడేళ్ల వయసులో తొలి ప్రదర్శననిచ్చి 12 ఏళ్ల నుంచి అంతర్జాతీయ పర్యటనలు ప్రారంభించారు. జాకిర్‌ 1988లో పద్మశ్రీ, 2002లో పద్మభూషణ్, 2023లో పద్మవిభూషణ్‌ పురస్కారాలను అందుకున్నారు.

♦ The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) was established the country’s first diabetes biobank in Chennai in collaboration with the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) on 15 December 2024. The biobank set up at the MDRF, Chennai, aims to gather, process, store and distribute biospecimens to assist scientific studies with the permission of the ICMR. ♦ The biobank contains blood samples from two major ICMR-funded studies: the ICMR-India Diabetes (ICMR-INDIAB) study conducted across States and Union Territories from 2008 to 2020, and an ongoing registry of young-onset diabetes, initiated in 2006. These samples include various types of diabetes, such as Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes, and will aid future research.
