♦ The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the 8th Central Pay Commission on 28 October 2025.

♦ Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai was named as the  chairperson of the 8th Pay Commission by the Centre.

♦ Petroleum secretary Pankaj Jain as member secretary and IIM Bangalore professor Pulak Ghosh as part-time member of this commission.

♦ The Commission has been mandated to submit its recommendations within 18 months from the date of its constitution.

♦ It may also submit interim reports on specific matters as and when its recommendations are finalised.

♦ In 2025 January, the Cabinet approved setting up the 8th Pay Commission to revise salaries of of central government employees and allowances of about 69 lakh pensioners.
