♦ Tuhin Kanta Pandey was appointed as the 11th Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for an initial tenure of three years on 27 February 2025.

♦ He will succeed Madhabi Puri Buch, whose term as SEBI Chairperson is set to end on 1 March 2025.

♦ Pandey is a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Odisha cadre and is currently serving as the Finance Secretary and Secretary of the Department of Revenue.

♦ Buch, the outgoing SEBI Chairperson, assumed office on March 2, 2022, for a three-year term, becoming the first woman to lead the markets regulator.

♦ She was also the first private sector professional to head SEBI.

♦ She began her career in 1989 with ICICI Bank and later worked as a lecturer at West Cheshire College in England between 1993 and 1995.
