♦ India has crossed the landmark figure of 5 lakh organ donation pledges, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to promote voluntary organ and tissue donation and strengthen the transplantation ecosystem.
♦ The achievement reflects growing public awareness and participation in organ donation, with citizens increasingly recognising it as a life-saving act that offers hope and a second chance to patients awaiting transplants.
♦ The milestone is also seen as a major step forward in the Government of India’s efforts to encourage informed participation and foster a culture of social responsibility.
♦ A key driver of the initiative has been the Aadhaar-based organ donation pledge registration portal developed under the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization.
♦ The platform has simplified the registration process, making it more accessible, secure and transparent, while enabling citizens across the country to pledge organ donation with ease.
