INS Imphal was commissioned into the Indian Navy at the naval dockyard in Mumbai on 26 December 2023. This is an indigenously built stealth-guided missile destroyer. INS Imphal is the third of the four 'Visakhapatnam-class destroyers developed and designed by the Indian Navy. Highlights of INS Imphal:
♦ INS Imphal is the first warship named after a city from the NorthEast, the approval of which was given in 2019 by then-President of India Ram Nath Kovind.
♦ It can achieve a maximum speed of 56 km/hr and is equipped with "state-of-the-art" weapons and sensors.
♦ It is capable of launching the BrahMos cruise missile. INS Imphal is capable of undertaking Anti-Submarine Warfare operations.
♦ The ship measures 163m in length, 17m in breadth with a displacement of 7,400 tonnes and is amongst the most potent warships built in India.
